The Colosseum is one of the most visited attractions in all of Europe. The rush is enormous. Very often there are queues that last for hours. Therefore, be sure to buy tickets online beforehand without queuing. These are available on this link at Getyourguide.
There are no rest days. Monday is also open as normal, like any other day of the week. Many other attractions and museums in Rome are closed on Mondays.
It is open on public holidays, with only 2 exceptions: Christmas Day (December 25th) and New Year’s Day. These are the only two days of the year that the Colosseum is closed to touristsö
Tiqets.info also has inexpensive guided tours Colosseum with Roman Forum, etc. (duration 3 hours, good guides, in German).
What day of the week is the best to visit the Colosseum?
As I said, there is a lot going on. The queues at the checkouts are often extreme. Be sure to buy tickets online from Getyourguide beforehand. It makes no sense to waste hours of a valuable vacation day waiting in a queue.
If you have to wait in line, it’s better not on the weekend. Perhaps the best time is Wednesday morning. Then there are many tourists at the Pope’s audience in the Vatican. But even on Wednesdays the waiting times can be enormous.
The solution to the problem: buy tickets in advance online. With these online skip-the-line tickets on your phone, you can enter the Colosseum by skipping the queue at another entrance.
Almost all tours, special admissions such as a visit to the Colosseum underground, are during official opening hours. As an exception, there are guided tours at night (only if booked in advance via this link). These are outside normal opening hours in the evening.
What time is the best time to visit the Colosseum?
You will need several hours to see the Colosseum and the surrounding excavations. So come by noon at the latest. If you haven’t bought an online ticket (>>> buy on this link), allow a few more hours to wait in line for the tickets. In the late afternoon the queues are shorter, but then there isn’t enough opening time to see everything.
Our tip: Admission prices and tickets for the Colosseum The tickets are not inexpensive, but for such a world-famous antique building not overpriced either. Many visitors buy Colosseum tickets in advance on the Internet, especially to avoid queuing for hours at a cash desk at the entrance. The queues are often hundreds of meters long. The tickets are available on the well-known and good website Getyourguide: |
